Breaking of the Red Sea excused - That Must Have Been One Heck of a Wind

We have all heard the Bible story about the Israelites fleeing Egypt. Everything was going just fine and they were making pretty good progress on their flight to freedom when, all all of a sudden, they ran up against the Red Sea. With an ocean of water at their front and an army of Eqyptians quickly bringing up the rear, it looked like only a miracle could save them. Somebody was going to have to do something about parting the Red Sea so they could safely cross over to the Land of Milk and Honey.

If you really stand back and look at their situation you will see at least one glaring error in their game plan right off the bat. That being - Why in the world did Moses lead them in that direction to begin with? Didn't they KNOW the Red Sea was going to be there? Or did they think it was just going to be the Red Puddle and they'd just be able to jump over it? Did they all have access to scuba gear that we're unaware of? Was Moses maybe hitting the old goatskin flask a little too frequently? What?! What kind of leader leads his people right into a corner like that?

Poor leadership aside, and let's not even consider what must have been a pitifully low group IQ level since they all chose to blindly follow Moses into this predicament, we learn in our Bibles and history books that Moses and the Isrealites did indeed attain it crossed the Red Sea that fateful day. Moses just said a little prayer, raised his shepherd's staff and the Sea magically parted, allowing some tens of thousands of Isrealites to just casually stroll crossed as if they were on hike headed for a Sunday picnic.

Scientists announced this week that it's completely possible that a immense wind came up that day and blew the waters of the Red Sea out and away from land, opening up an expanse of the ocean floor for the Isrealites to use for their escape.

I want you to try an experiment for me. Go fill a broiling dish with water. Any size broiling dish will do, just fill it with an inch or so of water.

Now, blow on that water as hard as you can until you are able to attain it separate - half on this side of the pan and half on the other. You're trying to 'Part' the water in your broiling dish the same way that supposed 'wind' parted the Red Sea.

It's impossible, isn't it? You'd have to have one of those immense turbo fans pointed directly at the broiling dish to have any kind of effect at all.

And if you scale that broiling dish up to the size of the Red Sea basin, you will see that it must have taken one heck of a wind to part the Red Sea and that wind would have had to blow for days to keep it parted long enough for tens of thousands of Isrealites to stroll crossed with their picnic baskets and croquet sets.

Sometimes science reaches too far in it's efforts to explain the unexplainable. A continuous wind, strong enough to part the Red Sea and allow tens of thousands of people enough time to walk crossed the path would be devastating to that entire section of the globe. It's much more plausible that Moses merely raised his staff and issued a command. But in the end it doesn't really matter which edition you believe because they're both miraculous, aren't they?

As a child I read, not one, but 2 encyclopedias. I read the 1959 Encyclopedia Britannica and the 1964 World Book Encyclopedia. I have 'audiographic memory', which means I remember 99% of what I hear or read.

In 1999 my mother passed due to breast cancer. My father created The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden. I recently started an on line edition of this beautiful, safe haven: I Have This Little Garden.

My personal tastes are somewhat on the 'odd' side... some even say bizarre. Hence my reason in starting The Eclectic Times. It is a brand new endeavor and I am slow, so I am sure it will be a long work in progress as will 'I Have This Little Garden'.

I hope you enjoy some of what is posted to this account. If so, please feel free to visit me at either of my websites.
